Barbados born, she first began listening to reggae music as she got older and started singing by herself, when she was an teen. To escape her parents' tensions along with the constant arguments between her parents and arguments, she began to sing. She formed a musical group while still in high school and was able to have take part in an audition for music producer Evan Rodgers who was highly amazed by her talent. He asked the girl to move to New York in order to make a career of it in the field of singing, which she readily accepted.
